Completion of Earthquake Reconstruction Work in Dhading

Another of our partners, Shanti Nepal, has recently completed its 3 years of earthquake reconstruction programming in Dhading District.  A huge congratulations to the Shanti Nepal team on the successful completion of extensive drinking water system and toilet construction schemes, support for rebuilding health clinics and irrigation systems, and livelihoods programming.

1. Khading CHC
The picture shows the Community Health Center (CHC) of Khading in Lapa village development committee (VDC), now Rubyvalley rural municipality. Shanti Nepal provided construction materials worth NPR. 500,000 while the community joined hands to build the structure. Around 37 people endeavored by breaking boulders which were found nearby their village in order to build the CHC building. The health workers are available to provide services in the near future and the community also aims to finish the structure by plastering it themselves.
2. MG members in North
Members of the Mothers’ Group in Khading, Lapa gather for interaction with Shanti and MCC staff. The mothers’ group had received stretchers, furniture, delivery beds, etc.
3. Stakeholder meeting
Ward chairs, user committee members, Shanti Nepal and MCC Nepal staff gather for a final wrap-up meeting of the Integrated Earthquake Recovery Project (IERP) in Salleri village in Ree, Gangajamuna rural municipality.
4. DWS in South
The drinking water system (DWS) reservoir tanks which are built by MCC partner, Shanti Nepal, are painted white and blue for branding. The reservoir tank in the picture measures 10k liters which is sufficient for 13 households of Bangrung village in Jogimara village development committee. Most of Shanti’s support in constructing DWS incorporates community contributions either in cash or labor, and there is also an impressive amount of local ward or rural municipality support.
5. Irrigation in South
The Patle Malta irrigation system of Dhussa VDC irrigates around 500 ropanies (approx. 250,000 sq. mt) of land in Simtari village in Gajuri rural municipality. Shanti Nepal supported 1.5 lakhs while the contribution from the community is more than half of the amount supported from Shanti. In this picture are Fatta Bahadur Shrestha, chairperson of the construction committee, and Purnalal Shrestha (with black cap), a member of the construction committee.
6. IERP final celebration
